Challenge of Mental Illness Research Assignment Paper - 3300 Words

Challenge of Mental Illness Research Assignment Paper (Research Paper Sample) Content: Challenge of Mental IllnessStudents NameInstitutionDateINTRODUCTIONEvery community is normally faced with a particular problem which tends to affect its members in a major way. Some of the societal problems have an effect on both the economic and social conditions of such economies. One of the most common problems is the constant use of some of the illegal drugs within a society which end up having economic and health effects on the users. In many cases, the law enforcing agencies tend to regulate the use and the dependence of the members on any addictive illegal substance such as bhang (Rudkin, 2003). The community presented in this project is specifically composed of those who suffer from mental illnesses such as schizophrenia, bipolar effects among others. This study seeks to focus on the problem of high dependency of the members of this society on one of the illegal drugs referred to as K2. The usage of this drugs remain a menace to this society, and this has led t o some deaths, negative health effects as well as lowered the levels of economic progress of this community. In essence, this study aims at coming up with the best solution to this problem by suggesting the best implementation plan to resolve the menace and also suggesting an appropriate budget for managing the menace (Minkler, 2005). The other area of interest to this study is the investigation of how the K2 drug has affected the major youthful generation of the community under study and the appropriate measures suitable to manage such extensive damage and spread of consequences. Therefore, the article intends to proceed with the preliminary study by coming up with the best solution to the problem of K2 as identified.Overview of the situation in this communityThe community presented in this study is one of the high industries communities where every member engages in a productive venture for purposes of building the economy. Business is one of the trade activities seen as vibrant a nd highly growing among the members. The inclusion of high-level technology has made the trade activities easier and more convenient for the community members. Further, the community comprises of individuals who are more focused on security issues. This has forced the community to come up with tight measures to help curb the growing threats of insecurity in the region. Many members have been involved in insecurity gangs and are therefore terrorizing the community on insecurity matters. Therefore, a lot of progress has been made by the community to try to identify the best measures to curb this insecurity.Despite these immense objectives, the community has been faced with the challenge of the use, importation and consumption of an illegal drug substance referred to as a K2 drug. This is a form of spiced marijuana which has a lot of effect to the users. The highly addictive drug caused effects such as high blood pressure, hallucinations, confusion, and excessive nausea and increased s weating on the users. In other cases, this drug has economic effects of promoting a weak and less productive economy, causes unemployment and reduced urge to participate in economic activities. Besides, the K2 drug users are highly exposed to permanent brain damage. Therefore, there is an urgent need to curb and prevent the use of this illegal substance in this community and this forms the gist of the study. The process is undergone to identify the problemThe initial steps which I took entailed the identification of the problem under study. The problem, in this case, entails the heavy use of the K2 drug which has a lot of negative ramification on the members of the community. Recently, there are many members with mental illness in this community, and this is associated with consumption and addiction to the K2 drug. The central focus of my study was one the specific people who have developed mental illness as well as those who use this substance. To identify the problem in the communit y, I engaged in the extensive research of determining the negative impact of the use of K2. This entailed seeking reports and information from medical organizations which have equally engaged in research activities in the community. Besides, I engaged in a lot of interviews so as to get the opinion of the users of this drug and their opinion. The interviews have been the major process which I undertook in this community. This is because the users of this drug have different reasons behind their dependency and therefore the process of interview was beneficial towards getting information from the mouth of the very users of this drug (Rudkin, 2003). In many occasions I engaged a lot with the mentally ill who also use and are highly addictive on the drug to be able to know the sources of the drug, how they come into the community, the channels followed and also estimate the number of those who use the drugs.Besides, I also engaged the experts within this community in many instances so a s to get their expert opinion on the best ways of managing the menace and also discovering how to handle the problem presented. Dr. Tim Montgomery is one of the highly resourceful professionals within the community who has in-depth knowledge on the usage of the K2 substance and its effects in this immediate community. Therefore, I engaged in numerous interview activities with the professional so as to come up with the best information which I generated before performing any further process (McMurray, 2007).After performing thorough interviews on both the professionals as well as the users of this drug, I grouped the sampled in segmented the community into two broad categories comprising of those who have acute effects out of the use of the drug and those with minor effects. The two segments were beneficial in identifying the period of addiction undergone by an individual from the time of first consumption to the point of further degeneration. My study looked at the trends of addicti on in this community and also focused on the category of the community who are highly affected by the use of the K2 drug. The community mental health issue revolves around the high dependence on this illegal drug which has been highly adopted in the community and continues to pose negative repercussions to the members of the community. After coming up with the information from the segments of the community, my research studied the negative impacts such as the cause of mental illness among the uses of the K2 drug. Specifically, I focused on the sampled members of the community who showed deteriorations after relying heavily on this drug. This includes the people who experienced hallucinations, bipolar disorders and those with mental illness. The research centered on investigating the other economic and social impact of K2 among members of this community such as lack of economic empowerment, promotion of unemployment among many other conditions (Haines et al., 2007). The focus was to f ully come up with the best information on the problem so as to be able to generate the best solutions preferable to the mental illness. The outline of plan of actionThe problem in this community which is inhabited by people suffering from the mental problem is the high dependency and use of the K2 drug among the members. The research on the source, use, and effect of this drug reveals that its highly dangerous and highly present in this community. In essence, the solution to this challenge is to properly manage the distribution, use and also prevents the possible health effects that are caused by the use of the fabricated marijuana (Rudkin, 2003). The best way to do this is to implement a plan of action which focuses on the elimination of this drug and also rehabilitating the addicts. The outline of the implementable action plan involves- Arresting and eliminating the distributors of K2 within this community so as to cut shot the supply of the drug- Rehabilitating the addicts of K2 drugs to help them restore their health- Provision of employment opportunities to the suppliers as well as the addicts to help them recover from the business and the use of the drugs respectively. The action plan to help address the problemThe problem presented in this research entails the immense use of the illegal substance referred to as K2 by members of the, particularly studied community. The drug has caused a lot of negative effects among them mental illnesses among the users. According to the research on this area, many people have suffered immensely out of the use of this drug, and this has lowered the economic growth and health degradation among the members of the community. The number of addicts has risen as well as the number of unemployed youths within this community. The following is the action plan and how best to implement the plan;Action one: Eliminate all the supply channel of the illicit drug into the communityThe embers within this community can use the K2 drug because they have easy access to the source. According to the research conducted, the drug enters this community through the conduits especially by powerful business people who wield a lot of power within the society (Roussos, S. T., Fawcett, 2000). They established a lot of channels which have offered a way for the drug lords to move the substance into the community easily. Presently, there are many suppliers in the community who have established networks of distribution and supply of the K2 drug. This has however led to many people accessing and using the illicit substance. Its usually a difficult task to eliminate cartels who are involved in an insidious activity such as the distribution and use of an illegal substance such as the K2 drug. One of the ways of performing this task is to use the law enforcing agencies to arrest some of the cartels and eliminate their networks in the community. Essay on Eriksons Psychosocial Stages and Adopted Children

Difficulties and Stages of Adopted Children Erikson believed that people develop in psychosocial stages. He emphasized developmental change throughout the human life span. In Eriksons theory, eight stages of development result as we go through the life span. Each stage consists of a crisis that must be faced. According to Erikson, this crisis is not a catastrophe but a turning point. The more an individual resolves the crises successfully, the healthier development will be. The first stage of Eriksons psychosocial stage is trust vs. mistrust, which is experienced, in the first year of life. Infants learn to trust in order to satisfy their needs thus developing a feeling of self-worth. When infants receive inconsistent care they†¦show more content†¦I learned to feed myself, dress myself and perform other tasks much earlier than societies norm. Initiative vs. guilt is Eriksons third stage of development, which occurs between three to six years of age. This is an expansion on the autonomy developed in the second stage. During this stage children begin pretend play with peers and accept responsibilities such as chores. If this stage develops conflict between family members and this child is unable to balance their initiative with the demands of others guilt may begin to form. I was placed in my adopted family at the beginning of this stage. I believe that I developed a little slower in this stage than children who were biological or who were adopted at a young age. I also believe that I developed slower than children who lived in a consistent foster home during this stage and were adopted later did. The reason that I believe this is because I felt very guilty during this stage. I felt that I had abandoned my foster family and the people that I lived with. My biological parents had visitation up until this stage and I tho ught that I did something wrong that made them not want to see me anymore. I turned this sense of guilt in to a feeling of needing to please everyone. Personal Story Winter Essay Example For Students

Personal Story Winter Essay The seasons are so fascinating to me; how they come in the same order every year patiently waiting to grace us with their presence. Each one has its own personality. Yet spring, summer, fall nor winter ever fail to surprise me with their wide range of temperatures. I have to admit though, winter happens to be my favorite. The first winter morning is the best; it sets the tone for the next 3 months of our lives. As I step outside to take a walk, the temperature feels like its dropping twenty degrees every second. The brisk wind hits my body, numbing my fingers and toes. My ears start to freeze and my nose gets runny; it feels like icicles are forming at the tip. Its so quiet; not a child playing or a bird chirping. The grass and bushes are covered in frost blankets and the trees stand naked, waiting for spring to come and return their clothes. The sun is shining bright yet you dont get to feel its rays, its like a huge light bulb in the sky shining light on our path. The streets are foggy and lonely, but I am not alone for the wind whispers and sings to me keeping me company. Although the winter mornings are full of surprises, the winter sporting events are even more exciting. I dont know what it is, but no one shows more school spirit during any other season like they do in the winter. The baseball, softball, and especially basketball games are normally packed to capacity with people. I have to admit, the student sections are the best to watch. Bundled up in their coats and boots, they cheer for their favorite players and scream at the opposing team. Their faces full of fear and excitement all at once. While half of them watch the score board, the other half watches the net or the plates. I think the parents might have the student section beat though. When I see a parent stand up yelling at his/her child I see all the dedication, the devoted time and belief they have, yet not only in their child but in the team as well. When those last few seconds are among them, the crowd gets butterflies in their stomachs. Doubt sets in and their bodies tense up as they send their prayers up hoping blessings will fall on them. I believe those last few seconds leading up to a win are the best; for those few seconds everything else is forgotten. Its nothing like watching these games with loved ones during the holidays. There isnt a more joyous time, than the winter holidays with family and friends. Homes are filled with people and the people fill the homes with laughter and love. Everyone comes to grandmas house to sit around the fire to fellowship, exchange laughs, play games, and participate in good ole family fun. The food is undeniably delicious; we feast on honey glazed ham, fluffy rolls, dressing with cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes, three different turkeys, dumplings, creamed corn, Marconi and cheese, cabbages, and greens. Before the decadent desserts are brought out, everyone is already full as a tick. They light the Yankee Candles, giving off the sweet aroma of apple cinnamon. As I sit and watch all the people enjoying themselves, my body is filled with self worth and my heart is filled with love, joy and compassion because I realize everyone in the room has the same burning flame inside of them that I just lit inside myself. The feelings captured on these winter holidays are unexplainable and cannot be compared to. Winter has so much meaning and excitement bottled up in one season; I believe thats why I find it to be my favorite. The seasons come and go; spring with its flowers and color, summer with its dry heat and fun, fall with its leaves and rakes, and winter with its snow and boots. Each season carries a different story to be told. Waiting for fall to pass; I will see what winter has in store for me this year.

The success of prominent companies such as Wal-Mart, Starbucks and Apple is attributed to their appropriate management styles which create good working environment. Consequently, this encourages junior level managers and the rest of employees to be responsible for all aspects of organization. The Objective of the Great Game of Life (GGOL) Program As indicated in the introductory part, an organization can develop and grow only if it has effective workforce. In the recent times, most organizations and companies have adopted cultures which focus on promoting growth and development of all employees. In the paradigm case, the top management has been striving to create and maintain operational excellence among employees. Prior the coming of Eitel, the company had 18 managers working in different plants. As a result, unhealthy internal competition occurred between them. Barely three months after he took over the post of CEO, Eitel redesigned the organizational structure which led to the birth of Great Game of Life (GGOL) program. The main objective of the program was to promote growth of every employee by inculcating the desire to make the right choices in life. Basing on his long term experience, Eitel believed that leaders are responsible for professional and personal growth. The program was meant to encourage the plant managers and other leaders at Simmons to focus on enhancing prod uctivity as well as pursuing professional growth (Casciaro Edmondson 2007a). Simmons should implement GGOL program Basically, the program was introduced to instill significant individual change amongst organizational leaders so as to revolutionize organizational culture which would facilitate implementation of defined business strategy. Before rolling out the program to other leaders of the organization, the top management visited Callaway Gardens in California to experience it. According to Casciaro and Edmondson (2007), the program was praised by the leaders who attended it. They believed that the program would create a trusting and productive culture for the entire company. Despite the advantages cited by the top management team, there are several issues and challenges that accompanied the implementation of the program. First and foremost, the managers of different plants did not favor the program on the premise that it would require total change in the organization structure an d system. As such, it can be suggested that most of them opt to resign.Advertising Looking for essay on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! The program is also expensive to implement hence would erode profitability in the long run. Therefore, the program should not be implemented (Casciaro Edmondson 2007a). Steps to achieved Positive Results upon Implementation of the program In most cases, change in an organization is resisted by different stakeholders. Therefore, the top management must carefully plan and design how it can implement it effectively. In the paradigm case, the implementation of GGOL program is likely to be hampered by resistance from some members of executive team and plant managers. The stakeholders would tend to resist the program for fear of unknown, loss of job security, habit, insufficient resources, fear of loss of power and bad timing. If in the event that the program is adopted and implemented, various steps should be taken in order to achieve desired objectives. It is advisable that the following steps are taken: Step One: Establish appropriate processes and practices that would drive change management: After ascertaining the need and the importance of the change (GGOL), it is important to craft a plan that would facilitate smooth handling of the change. The procedures for handling the program should be defined. These include procedures for requesting adoption and implementation of change, scheduled for implementing it, how it will be applied and how the organization will back out changes that give rise to problems. Responsibilities of various stakeholders and tools to be used should be defined. Step Two: Communicate the change to key stakeholders so as to gain the necessary buy-in: Every vehicle available wou ld be used to communicate the need and the importance of change to all stakeholders of the organization. Informing all the stakeholders of the program helps to instill positive attitude amongst them. This will guarantee optimum support from them. Step Three: Empowering action: The employees or the members of management body should be empowered so as to get rid of obstacles during implementation of the program. Modify systems and structures that may influence the attainment of objectives.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Simmons Case Study specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Step Four: Implement and monitor the program: The GGOL program is applied and the results monitored. In the event that positive results are not achieved, backing out of changes is pursued. Step Five: Evaluate and report on the program implemented: It is important to provide feedback on all the results of the new program. Effect of GGOL program on managerial or employee culture of Simmons Any change has impacts on managerial or employee culture in an organization. It affects the way the employees and the top management do things. In the Simmons case, adoption and subsequent implementation of Great Game of Life program would affect the culture. The program would incorporate various aspects of management in the organization. Currently, the company has a dictatorial management and a centralized system. With the implementation of the program, employees would be incorporated into decision making processes as that would facilitate realization of the vision of achieving both personal and professional growth amongst employees. The management has to abandon the culture of dictatorial management and adopt inclusive management styles (Casciaro Edmondson 2007b). Management of Emotional Elements Associated with implementation of Great Game of Life Program Emotions management is one of the greatest challenges in change implementation. It is easy to change policies and physical infrastructure but it is hard to convince organization’s stakeholders (employees) to abandon their accustomed habits, and push them to embrace change paradigms in their working environment. In this case, emotions should be managed otherwise the intended results may not be achieved. One of the ways is of achieving this is by ending uncertainty. Some employees and members of executive team tend to react to change because they are not certain of its consequences. It is important that the vision of change is explicitly revealed.Advertising Looking for essay on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Employees should be convinced about the need of the program. The benefits that the change would bring should be made clear. The third way of managing emotions is allowing employees and members of the executive team to take up ownership of the program. They should be fully engaged in the processes of change (Casciaro Edmondson 2007b). Conclusion Change is inevitable in any organization especially in the fast-changing environment. It can have either negative or positive effects on the organization. In order to achieve the desired results, change should be carefully planned and implemented. All the stakeholders should be involved in change implementation otherwise positive results will not be achieved. References Casciaro, T. Edmondson, A. (2007a). Leading change at Simmons (A).
